EFL came back to Tallinn for the second and last time in the current season. In the build-up to the event and as part of the New Year traditions the home club of the cradle of Estonian Ultimate published results of club members’ poll that was styled as year’s resolutions. While it did reflect the fun and friendly nature of ultimate society there was a heavy emphasis on ambitions. So many players want to take part in bigger international
tournaments and play in momentous finals. Well the road to that starts at home, winning is a habit in big and little games alike and the desire to win has shined brightly on the day. EFL started with goals to help develop beginner’s competitive experience and promote Ultimate in Estonia as well as to work on progressing in group stage qualifications of international tournaments. The first part turned out great instantly with help of a responsive and fantastically welcoming community, but the friendly league is outgrowing into a real competition, especially with this season being so finely poised.
January seems to become the time for big upsets. In 2014 Rockets have all but eradicated the two-horse race against Kenn in the penultimate stage of the league. In 2015 there were two more stages left on the calendar so there was not much threat of the title race being predetermined at the end of the event, but the Red Wings already had a 5 point lead and a second successive win for them would be a big step towards securing the title. Horns, Checkmate and Brothers looked towards cutting the gap to leaders, and ÖÖ being the team with the most WUCC players and most EFL past winners really needed to come up to initial expectations and realise their potential in order to start building what already seemed to be a long comeback.

As it happened…
New season started with a few records, 5 hours rather than 3 a year ago, 6 teams instead of 5, 15 games rather than 10 and most precious 47 active players, making it a new EFL participation record. And there was a new previously unseen chaos throughout the results.
Joining the regular teams was a yellow pick-up team, which upgraded their identity this year from an unknown man John Doe to a new more menacing PUps side. And this collection of PUps was the most faultless team in the tournament that shot to success teaching a hard lesson and beating all 5 regular teams and reaching the only 3 point caps of the tournament along the way. Though while the supremacy of the Yellows PUps seemed clear the race to become the best of the rest was changing throughout the day. Seven games ended with just one point between the teams and this is how it unfolded.

In the end of the second round, PUps were leading with two wins, Horns, Brothers, ÖÖ and White with one win each and Wings being last with two games lost by a point.

At the end of fourth round PUps guaranteed themselves win of the tournament. Blues, Greens, Whites seemed to be eyeing up that second place with two wins each. Blues Brothers and Checkmate were playing each other in the last game, while Horns were about to play the Red Wings, who along with the ÖÖ only enjoyed one win so far, though the blacks still had the mighty PUps to come.

So the Checkmate took second place with 8 points and Blues joined the Greens and Reds on 7 points. In this company Reds took victories against the comparison and were hence third and the victory of Brothers over Horns means that the Blues are fourth and the Greens are fifth.

So last year we had one favourite after the first stage with one or two teams who could challenge them after stage one and it seemed to close up to a two horse race after stage two. This year looks like any of the 5 teams could take the trophy with no real favourites yet. And unlikely to change dramatically after the next stage as well. Perhaps attendance and health of players may play the decisive role, so try to make it to the next tournament!

Eesti Frisbee Liiga (EFL) eesmärgiks on anda võimalikult paljudele Eesti Frisbee mängijatele võistluskogemust ning arendada ja laiendada Eesti Frisbee kogukonda läbi ühisürituste.

Sel hooajal koosneb liiga viiest turniirist, millest esimene toimub juba 12 oktoober Tallinnas.

Liiga karika ja muude auhindade nimel võistlevad 5 põhitiimi, mis koosnevad 9 mängijast (4 naist+5 meest). Lisaks teeb nende elu põnevamaks igaks turniiriks kokkupandav pick-up tiim(id) (Tiimi suurus vastavalt registreerinud mängijatele).

Põhitiimidesse registreerimine on selleks hooajaks lõppenud ning kõik kes seda tegid ja osalustasu õigeaegselt maksid on nimekirjas mis avaldatakse varsti. Teie eraldi üritustele registreerima ei pea, piisab kui oma tiimi kaptenile teada annate, et olete tulemas.

Ülejäänutel on võimalus osaleda turniiridel pick-up mängijana. Selleks tuleks end kirja panna kasutades selleks loodud vormi ning tasudes osalustasu.
